Help! I need somebody, Help! Not just anybody, Help! You know I need someone, Help!

I am having a decorating block and would love some help with it. On either side of the kitchen window there are 3 shelves that I can't figure out what to do with. The are fairly narrow and as deep as a kitchen cabinet. I don't want them to sit empty, but I also don't want them to end up cluttered with trinkets. I would appreciate any ideas you might have concerning them. Thanks!

I have 2 ideas. I dont know if either will work, but you can try. I am a try and if it doesnt look good try something else sort of person. Its hard to try things in your mind vs. actually seeing it. Here goes - #1 - I would try all different size and shaped vases, 2 to 3 on each (depending on size). If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, thats a great place to get some for cheap. #2 - try some decorative plates on a stand and angle them a little out. I dont know if that would look good, I think you just have to try. I just thought of another - You could do a couple of picture frames on there or you can mix them with the vases. Hope you find something - Good Luck!

I think BALANCE and SYMMETRY are key. Try putting the same type of object on each shelf or at least on each level. What about frames with the flower photos you take. Those are very vibrant. I would buy identical simple picture frames. Glass is a good idea too. Hurry or Brad may put sports junk there.

I have two ideas also.

#1. Put a sembaseball trophy up there.

#2. If you cannot win a sembaseball trophy, then fill the shelves with lots and lots and lots of wheat beer. Any space that is left after you fill the shelves with wheat beer ought to be filled with other types of beer. Also, if there is additional space, things should be cleared out of the fridge and placed up there so you can have more room in the fridge for wheat beer.

Let me know if your husband has any problem with my solution.

Sparling!!!!!!!! It's so good to hear from you!!! Sembaseball has assumed it's position in the backseat now that football season is here. You'll have to win the trophy and then come visit. You can let us try the trophy out on the shelf and see if we should try harder to win sembaseball next year. As for the wheat beer idea, it's great, but probably not the right image for the youth to see of Brad when they come over for Bible study. We'll definitely keep it as an if-all-else-fails-option. So good to hear from you!!!!

Sports 'junk' and beer. I think that just about sums up what we need for those shelves.

Sembaseball trophies are hard to come by. I'm thinking about staging a robbery in the offseason - definitely if it ends up remaining in STL.

I was also thinking of some sort of picture frames with a bunch of collages of past ticket stubs... such as Kauffman, Wrigley, old KingDome, SafeCo, Arrowhead, and of course our Huskers' own Memorial Stadium. It's kind of the best of both worlds - picture frames and sports 'junk'. Put some beer up there and we got it made.

Thanks everyone!

Your Mom says put some green up there. With a window like that a small plant or two would look nice. Maybe even something that blooms occasionally. Like Lindsay's idea, and anonymous too

Thanks for identifying yourself Mom! If you click other instead of anonymous you can type "Mom" where it asks your name. I don't think you have to worry about the website box directly below that.
